Neonatal Care Leave Policy
Neonatal Care Leave was introduced to support parents of babies who are admitted into neonatal care within 28 days of birth. The baby must be born on or after 6 April 2025.
At the birth of the baby, the employee must be one of:
- the baby's parents;
- the baby’s intended parents (applicable to surrogacy); or
- partner to the baby’s mother (who are unrelated and living with them in an enduring family relationship) with the expectation they will have responsibility for raising the child.
If adopting, similar principles as above apply.
Eligible employees will be able to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave in addition to their other family leave entitlements, such as maternity and paternity leave.
NB: This policy applies when statutory payments for such leave are made, if you chose to make enhanced payments, the policy will need changing to reflect that.
This example policy sets out the rights during the neonatal care leave.
As with all the policies, it will require further personalisation.
